Michael Thompson, a 9-year-old rising fourth grader at Collegiate Prep Elementary in Cedar Hill, Texas, is making waves with his remarkable entrepreneurial spirit and community-driven initiatives. This Saturday night, he will be honored during the prestigious Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for his impactful work.

Empowering the Next Generation through Mindfulness and Entrepreneurship

Cultivating Mindfulness and Self-Awareness in Young Black Boys

Michael, along with his younger brothers Jordan, 7, and Jalen, 4, have launched a remarkable initiative called "Black Boys Meditate." This program, which started just a few months ago, aims to introduce mindfulness and meditation practices to underserved communities, empowering young Black boys to cultivate self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and a deeper connection with their inner selves.The impact of "Black Boys Meditate" has already been substantial. The program's "Affirmation Alphabet" is being utilized in various elementary school classrooms, while the "Color and Calm" coloring books are sold on Amazon, and the "Family and Flow" yoga classes have become a community favorite. Through these diverse offerings, Michael and his brothers are making mindfulness accessible and engaging for their peers.

Entrepreneurial Endeavors and a Succession Plan

Michael's entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond the realm of mindfulness. He has already established his own business, which he plans to transition to his younger brothers in the coming years. This forward-thinking approach showcases Michael's business acumen and his desire to empower the next generation of leaders."I want to sell clothes that make people feel good about themselves," Michael shared, hinting at his next venture, Sparkjoy, which aims to create apparel that boosts self-confidence and positivity.
